• HOT is a tax applicable to all short-term rental (STR) stays lasting less than 30 consecutive days.
• The tax rate for Laguna Vista is 7%, and monthly reports are due by the 20th of each month.
• HOT can be paid online or in person.
• Property owners must file a HOT Return Form each month, even if the property was not rented. Zero claims are necessary.
• Failure to register or submit the HOT Return Form can result in fines up to $500, with potential daily fines for non-compliance.
• A one-time registration fee of $50.00 per owner is required. Subsequent properties must be registered, but only one fee is applicable.
• Registration can be done electronically or by downloading the Hotel Occupancy Registration Form. Forms can be submitted at City Hall between 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm, Monday to Friday.All advertising or promotion of properties must prominently display the unique Laguna Vista issued registration number.
